Light Therapy Insiders is an independent publication founded by Alex Fergus in 2023. This page explains how we make money and the rules we follow when we review products and write about the science.
How We Make Money
- Many links on this site are affiliate links. If you buy through them, or use one of our discount codes, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.
- We're affiliated with many of the brands we review, including every brand in our 2026 panel test.
- Brands usually send us products to review free of charge.
- In our 2026 panel test, each brand paid LightLab International's fee for testing its own panel.
- We don't make or sell any products.

How We Keep Our Reviews Honest
- We test the products ourselves. Our panel scores come from independent lab measurements and published scoring rules applied the same way to every panel. See how we test.
- Our scoring rules are the same for every product in a test, whatever the commission.
- We publish negative results too, and several of our reviews recommend skipping the product.
- When a product changes or new data comes in, we update the review.
How We Write About the Science
Most of our science articles are researched and written by our head researcher, Bart Wolbers, who holds master's degrees in Clinical Health Science and in Philosophy of Science and Technology, and a bachelor's degree in Physical Therapy. We link to the peer-reviewed studies behind our claims, mostly on PubMed, so you can check them yourself. Red light therapy research is still developing, and we try to say clearly when the evidence is early or mixed.
