New BioMax Pro Panel vs BioMax 9th Gen: Save Your Money

Which PlatinumLED panel should you buy? I compare the new BioMax Pro to the 9th Gen BioMax 900, breaking down power, LEDs, features, design, and price to reveal whether the upgrade is worth it or if you should save your money.

New BioMax Pro Panel vs BioMax 9th Gen: Save Your Money

Introduction

I’ve got the new BioMax Pro Ultra—the latest flagship panel from PlatinumLED. This is effectively the upgraded version of the BioMax 900, and the big question is: how much better is it really? And perhaps more importantly, is it worth the extra expense?

I’ll be straight up with you. Personally, I wouldn’t spend the money to get the Pro. If it were my money, I’d save and stick with the older BioMax 900. That said, let’s break down the differences so you can decide for yourself whether the Pro Ultra justifies its higher price tag.

Key Differences

The new BioMax Pro Ultra has been completely re-engineered, featuring several notable upgrades compared to the BioMax 900.

More LEDs:
The Pro Ultra packs 30% more LEDs. Where the 900 had 300 LEDs, the new Pro Ultra squeezes in 430.

Higher Power Output:
PlatinumLED claims the Pro Ultra is about 20% more powerful, and my testing confirmed it’s definitely stronger than the 900. However, keep in mind that the BioMax 900 was already an extremely powerful panel. For many, it was arguably more than enough already.

Smart Modes & Wavelength Control:
This is one of the Pro’s standout features. With the new design, you can use a single button to switch between modes, such as skincare or workout recovery.

You can also individually control the power output of each wavelength. The older BioMax allowed adjustments for groups of wavelengths (e.g., red, near-infrared), but not to this level of customization.

Improved Remote:
The Pro Ultra comes with a new, sleeker remote. It’s nice, but nothing game-changing. Personally, I found the simple on/off remote of the older model just fine.

Built-in Pulsing:
The new model includes pulsing functionality. I’ve never used pulsing and don’t think most people will. It’s there if you want it, though.

Zero-Gap Design:
This is a big one for anyone planning to link multiple panels. The Pro Ultra features LEDs that run all the way to the edge of the panel, ensuring that when panels are clipped together, there are no “dead zones” in the treatment area. The 900 had noticeable gaps where the panel edges met.

Cosmetic Changes:
The Pro Ultra comes in black, while the BioMax 900 is white. Functionally, that makes no difference, but some may prefer the sleeker look.

What Stays the Same:
Both models utilize the same seven therapeutic wavelengths, feature touchscreen controls, and are compatible with the same stands.

In summary, the Pro Ultra features more LEDs, increased power, smart capabilities, pulsing effects, and a zero-gap design. Whether or not these extras matter is another story.

Price

Here’s where it gets tricky.

That’s a $300 price difference. With my discount link, https://aferg.co/redled, you’ll save 5% on either panel. The real question is whether those extra features and added power are worth $300 to you.

Wavelengths are controlled by group as opposed to indivudually on the BioMax 900

My team and I have conducted extensive research on the benefits of red light therapy. Be sure to check out the articles on my website. Here's one article: Red Light Therapy Wavelengths Benefits: The Ultimate Guide

Is It Worth It?

For me, the answer is no.

I’ve personally had fantastic results with BioMax panels over the years. Until very recently, I was still using BioMax 900 panels that were three or four generations old. They worked beautifully.

Sure, I didn’t love the dead zone issue when stacking panels, but beyond that, I was never concerned about pulsing, never needed smart modes, and certainly didn’t feel the need to tweak every individual wavelength.

Even the old remote—simple on/off—was perfectly fine for my use.

Extra Power—Do You Need It?

Yes, the Pro Ultra is stronger. But again, the 900 was already a powerhouse. With red light therapy, there’s always a balance—you want the energy to penetrate muscles, bones, and ligaments, but overloading the skin is a real possibility.

For my goals—performance, sports recovery, and deep tissue benefits—the BioMax 900 already provided all the power I needed. For general wellness, skin improvements, and circulation, you absolutely don’t need the higher radiance levels of the Pro Ultra.

Reasons to Purchase the Pro Ultra

There are, however, a few cases where I do think the Pro Ultra is worth it:

  1. Multiple Panels / No Dead Zones:
If you plan to link two or more panels, the zero-gap design of the Pro Ultra is a game-changer.
  2. Chronic or Intense Issues Requiring More Power:
If you’re treating arthritis, chronic back pain, hip problems, or other conditions where extra intensity could be beneficial, the Pro Ultra may be a good option.
  3. Smart Modes & Convenience:
If you love the idea of hitting a single button for “skin mode” or “recovery mode,” or you genuinely want complete wavelength control, the Pro Ultra delivers those features.

For everyone else? The BioMax 900 is still an outstanding panel. Both deliver the correct wavelengths and ample power.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, both the BioMax Pro Ultra and the BioMax 900 are excellent devices. If you value the extra features, zero-gap design, and higher output, then the Pro Ultra may be worth the additional $300.

But if you’re looking for reliable, proven red light therapy with more than enough power, the BioMax 900 remains an incredible choice—and it’ll save you money.
