This is Block Blue Light’s fifth-generation Mega red light therapy panel—and I’ve got to say, it has the potential to be the best red light therapy panel currently on the market.
If you've followed my content, you’ll know the Gen 4 version of this panel came in second place in my 2024 comparison series. It just narrowly missed the top spot. But this new release? It’s brought a whole new level of upgrades and features that push it even closer to that elusive number one ranking.
So what makes the Gen 5 different? Let’s dive in.
Major Upgrades You Should Know About
This new panel boasts several standout features, with its ability to adjust the power output for each wavelength at the top of the list. That means you can dial in exactly how much red or near-infrared light you want to use during each session. You can even save your custom settings—either directly on the panel or via their new app.
This panel now features complete app control, mirroring all the functionality of the panel’s touchscreen interface. Not only is it more intuitive and smoother to use, but it also helps the Mega meet IEC 60601 certification, meaning it’s built to medical-grade equipment standards.
LED Specs, Size, and Design
This device is equipped with 300 dual-chip LEDs, and yes, it features a pulsing function that ranges from 1Hz to 10,000Hz. Just like the previous generation, it features a large, easy-to-use touchscreen interface and a modular design, enabling you to link multiple units for enhanced coverage.
The dimensions remain the same: 36 inches tall and 12 inches wide. That makes it a full-sized wall panel, designed to cover most of your upper body.
The Wavelengths
You're getting five specific wavelengths in this panel:
I checked it with my spectrometer. Here’s what I found:
- A peak at 633nm (listed as 630)
- A peak at 665nm (listed as 660)
- A peak at 816nm (meant to be 810)
- A peak at 837nm
- And finally, 860nm (listed as 850)
Some wavelengths were slightly off—by about 6 or 7 nanometers—but still within usable range. Typically, I allow a margin of error around 5nm, so this was just slightly over. That said, you're still getting solid energy delivery in the target bands.
Power and Irradiance Testing
Let’s talk numbers. My testing showed:
- Peak irradiance: 105 mW/cm²
- Average irradiance: 81 mW/cm²
- Total power output: 168.8 watts
For comparison, Block Blue Light lists the average as 89 mW/cm², which is well within the margin of error compared to my reading.
And where does that rank it? According to my Light Therapy Insiders shopping tool, the Gen 5 Mega ranks fifth in average irradiance among all panels tested. That’s quite good—just a few points behind the highest performers.
EMF and Sound Levels
This panel registered zero EMF during use. As for sound, it measured 43 decibels—whisper quiet. Only two panels I’ve tested have been quieter.

Sorting by value in my comparison tool, the Mega Gen 5 again lands in fifth place, tied with the Roho Refine 900. Now, you might think fifth place is underwhelming—but anything under $8 per watt of irradiance is phenomenal value. Plus, you’re getting a lot of premium features that justify the price.

- Hanging hooks
- A simple remote
- A well-written manual
You can also purchase additional accessories, such as a motorized stand, a manual horizontal stand, or a floor stand with wheels. I highly recommend the motorized option—it’s worth the investment.
What I Like:
Let’s start with the obvious: good power delivery with a well-balanced spectrum.
Thanks to the dual-chip LEDs and five-wavelength setup, you get a smooth, even blend of light across the surface—no hot spots, no drop-offs. My spectrometer confirmed it: the energy distribution is excellent across the panel.
Here’s how the wavelength energy is divided:
- 25% to 630nm
- 25% to 660nm
- 17% each to 810, 830, and 850nm
That balance, combined with customization, makes this one of the most adaptable panels available.
Customization Features
The standout feature for me is the ability to adjust the intensity per wavelength. Want more 630nm and less 660nm? Easy. Want to kill the near-infrared for a face treatment? Done. Once you’ve got your perfect mix, you can save it directly on the panel or in the app for easy access next time.
App & Remote
The app is well-designed and mirrors everything you can do on the touchscreen. You can even disable Bluetooth for those concerned about EMFs.
And the remote? Super simple—just the basics. I actually like that. For advanced features, use the app. If you want something easy, use the remote. Perfect balance.
Build Quality & Customer Experience
Block Blue Light has been around for years. While they only entered the red light therapy space 3–4 years ago, they’ve built a solid reputation. I’ve interviewed the founder, spoken with customer support, and even polled my Facebook group of over 20,000 users. Across the board, Block Blue Light consistently scores high in customer satisfaction.

What I Don’t Like
Okay, so what’s missing?
First, no built-in preset modes like “Skin,” “Sleep,” or “Muscle Recovery.” You can create your ratios and save them, sure, but there are no one-touch modes for newbies.
Competitors like Rojo and Red Light Rising have already incorporated these features. When I asked founder Dan Ebbert about it, he explained why they left them out—it made sense, but it’s still something users might miss.
Additionally, if you are looking for amber light, 1060nm, or blue light, you’ll need to look elsewhere. That may or may not matter to you—I’m still getting great results from just 660nm and 850nm, but it’s worth mentioning.
And yes, those slight discrepancies in the wavelength peaks—minor, but noticeable. It’s something I’ll continue to monitor in future releases.
Final Verdict
Should you buy it? Is this the best red light therapy panel in 2025?
Honestly, it just might be. If this Gen 5 panel had been part of my 2024 comparison series, I’m confident it would have beaten out the Biomax 900 thanks to its added customization, app control, and balanced spectrum.
Of course, PlatinumLED may have something new coming down the pipeline. And Rouge’s G4 panel is another contender I’m just finished reviewing—it might give the Mega a serious run for its money. But right now, mid-2025? This is easily one of the top-performing, most well-rounded panels available.
Is it perfect? No panel ever is. But for the power, usability, safety, price, support, and now customization? This is one of the strongest options on the market today.

Bottom line: Know your budget. Know your needs. Pick the panel that fits both.
