What I Use: My 5 Best Red Light Devices For 2025

Welcome to Alex Fergus' red light therapy devices article, wherein I explain what devices I use in my daily life. As you'll soon see, I combine masks, lasers, handheld devices, an intravenous light device, panels, torches, and much more.

What I Use: My 5 Best Red Light Devices For 2025
On this page
Introduction

I've been in the red light therapy space for over 7 years. I have tested and reviewed dozens, if not hundreds, of devices. Companies often send me products to try, and over that time, I have settled into a small rotation of devices I actually use in daily life.

Below, I share the five devices I personally rely on, explain why I use each one, and describe how I choose what to pack when traveling.

Overview: The Devices I Rely On

Mito Mobile Flex (Handheld)

I keep the Mito Mobile Flex within reach for short, targeted treatments.

This small handheld has been a staple for years. It outputs both red and near-infrared wavelengths on a dual-chip, allowing you to alternate between them.

The Mito Mobile Flex is surprisingly powerful for its size, and the treatment area is big enough to be useful while still being easy to hold.

I often spot‑treat sore elbows and joints with a compact handheld — quick, targeted sessions.

Why I keep it within arm's reach in the living area: my wife and I often grab it in the evening to spot treat a sore elbow, a healing wound, or to use on our faces.

The device costs only a couple of hundred dollars, and despite newer generations existing, I still reach for this model because it is simple, portable, and effective. If you want a low cost introduction to red light therapy, a handheld device like this is a great starting point.

High-Powered Handheld Laser (800 nm and 900 nm)

I bought this laser myself. It was expensive (around $2,000), but it utilizes high-powered lasers at deeper-penetrating wavelengths in the 800- and 900-nanometer ranges. Combine that depth of penetration with higher power, and you get a device that is great for treating the brain, joints, and ligaments.

This has become my go-to device for injury and recovery. I lift heavy weights, and at nearly 40, I still experience twinges in my elbow, knee, or back.

The unit is battery-powered and easy to handle, so in the evening, I’ll spot-treat problem areas for a few minutes and notice a substantial benefit. It is a luxury device at this price point, and it is not for everyone, but it is extremely useful when I need targeted deep treatment.

Lightpath LED Torch

Torches are one of my most-used travel tools. I use a Lightpath LED diesel torch (code ALEX saves!) most often. The torch puts out a lot of red and near-infrared light, and some versions also include blue wavelengths.

The blue light option is handy for spot treating pimples for a minute or so. Torches are excellent for treating small wounds, sunburned skin, or localized injuries while on the move. Because of their size, price, and power density, I keep a torch in my kit for quick spot treatments.

Project E LumaLux Pro Mask

I used to be skeptical about masks, but after reviewing 25 different models, I realized a well-built mask has a clear place. A good mask puts out the right wavelengths at the right intensity for skin-level benefits.

Masks are not intended to reach deep joints or bones, but the convenience is unparalleled: you can wear it while watching TV or doing chores.

I like this mask because it is well-priced, features numerous LEDs, provides good coverage zones, and is easy to use. Grab a Project E Mask and use discount code ALEX15 for 15% off by clicking HERE,

Currently, I am conducting a 12-week before-and-after experiment with this mask. I have taken close-up photos and will repeat them after 12 weeks to assess real changes. One key reason I chose this mask for travel is its flexibility and portability. I am about to be away for five weeks, and this mask will pack easily in my suitcase.

Block Blue Light Ultimate XXL Body Panel

This massive panel has been my go-to for full-body sessions. It covers me shoulder to shoulder and head to toe, includes all the right red and near infrared wavelengths, and outputs plenty of power.

The panel features advanced options, including pulsing and adjustable wavelength intensity, although I rarely utilize them. My typical routine is simple: about five minutes per side, multiple times per week.

Panels like the Block Blue Light Ultimate XXL are hard to move, so mine lives in the studio. For whole-body exposure and convenience when at home, a large panel is the most effective single device I own, even if it carries a higher price tag.

Bonus device: Weber Endolight

The Weber Endolight (code ALEX saves!) is expensive and overkill for most people, but it serves a precise role. I will be taking this device with me when I travel, as I want to maintain the vascular and systemic benefits I receive from intravascular light sessions when I don't have access to my larger panels or lasers.

When I am away I will typically travel with three items: the Endolight for intravenous style exposure, my torch for spot treating problem areas, and the mask for daily skin work. That combination covers most scenarios for maintaining my routine on the road.

How I Choose Which Device To Use

My decisions come down to these factors:

  • Goal - skin rejuvenation, wound healing, joint depth, systemic therapy
  • Wavelengths - red versus near infrared and, for lasers, deeper 800 to 900 nm options
  • Power and penetration - lasers and big panels for depth, masks and small devices for skin
  • Portability - torches and masks win for travel
  • Price - there are budget-friendly options and premium tools that do more

My Typical Weekly Routine

Here's my routine, depending on whether I travel or not:

  1. Short, focused spot treatments with the handheld or laser as needed for injuries.
  2. Five minutes per side on the Block Blue Light XXL panel a couple of times a week for full body exposure.
  3. Daily mask sessions during my 12-week experiment to track skin improvements.
  4. Torch use for quick, localized care while traveling or at home.

Who Should Buy What?

Still not sure what to get? Here are some considerations:

  • Beginners on a budget: a compact handheld like the Mito Red Mobile Flex gives immediate, useful results.
  • Serious recovery and deep tissue work: a high-powered handheld laser (800 nm and 900 nm) or a large panel is best.
  • Travelers: a torch plus a flexible mask will cover most needs without taking up much space.
  • Those seeking systemic or intravascular exposure: consider a specialized device like the Endolight, recognizing the higher cost and specific use case.

Final Thoughts And A Question For You

I am fortunate to have access to many devices, but if you could only choose one or two from this list, which would you select?

Personally, I always value a combination that covers both skin-level convenience and deeper recovery work. For many people, this convenience means pairing a portable device (such as a torch or handheld device) with either a mask or a panel.

Leave a comment and tell me your current go-to device and which two you would choose if you had to narrow it down. I read all the responses, and I know others find those choices helpful when deciding what to buy.
