Today, a huge issue that many people have, with neck and jaw pain, with an exciing new study.
And, we've added all of our latest content below as well!
2026 Study With Simple Protocol For Neck And Jaw Pain
Many, many people are affected by either neck pain or jaw pain. We've included the topic of neck pain in the article below, if you want a deep dive:

Here's what researchers write about the topic in a very recent study:
"[Light therapy] was applied to the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) region, masseter, temporal, scalene, and trapezius muscles over six nonāconsecutive sessions over 2āweeks. [...] A caliper and goniometer were used to measure the mandibular and cervical range of motion, respectively. Pain was assessed with the visual analog scale (VAS) before and after intervention. Results showed pain reduction only in the LED group postāintervention; the placebo group showed no difference. "
I know that sound complicated, maybe. So, to make things simpler, Figure 1 showcases the treatment areas used in this study:

So this is a treatment you can somewhat easily replicate at home. At least, the arteries in the neck, neck muscles, and areas around the ears, are pretty easy to target.
Some of the devices I recommend here, for example, are the Kineon MOVE+, which can be directly placed in the neck:

A torch device likely works really well too, such as:

The treatment area here was 20 cm2, or a little under 2 inches by 2 inches. And the total dose was only 5 J/cm2. Which is kind of low, honestly!
I'd like to have seen a higher dose, esp if you want to reach blood vessels that are located deeper under the skin, etc. But, for now, the study setup is decent.
Now, the study participants had Temporomandibular Joint Disorder (TMD), which affects quite a lot of humans. In plain English, that's jaw pain. The researchers measured the VAS scale (which is your pain levels between 0 ("no pain"), and 10 ("worst pain imaginable").
Here's the outcome for jaw pain in this study:

So, jaw pain was reduced.
(By the way, we have a huge deep dive on TMD/jaw pain and dysfunction, that you can read below:)

The moral of the story, though? Even a very simple protocol of treatment in the neck region (ideally hitting some of the arteries there too), the attachments around the ear, will give you benefits even if the dose is technically pretty low.
Here's what the researchers conclude:
"In the present study, we were able to verify through the results of the VAS a significant reduction in pain in patients suffering from pain associated with temporomandibular disorders. These findings suggest that treatment with an LED cluster represents an effective alternative for pain relief. "
Good, and simple. And one thing I will say here is that it's good we're seeing more LED-focused studies now, as even in this field with TMD/TMJ and neck pain, almost all of the studies use lasers. So LEDs work too, and, fortunately, even if you underdose, you'll get results!
Almost any device, if you're able to supply 5 J/cm2 to the ear and neck area, will get you results. If you wish to learn about the basics of dosing, check:
