PlatinumLED BioMax Pro Ultra Review: Lab-Tested Against 10 Rival Panels (2026)

Is the PlatinumLED BioMax Pro Ultra worth it? I had it lab-tested against 10 rival panels. It won my 2026 test, with strong, balanced light and the best controls I tested.

PlatinumLED BioMax Pro Ultra review cover: Alex Fergus with the lab-tested panel

Introduction

The PlatinumLED BioMax Pro Ultra is the biggest panel in PlatinumLED's Pro range: 432 LEDs, seven wavelengths and a zero-gap design built for multi-panel setups. I first reviewed it when it launched in 2025. This year I put it through the same independent lab tests as the 10 other panels in my 2026 panel comparison.

It won, with 63.25 points, 2 points ahead of the MitoLight MitoHacker 5.0. Below, you'll find the lab's own measurements, including a heat map of its light, its spectrum and its output over a full session. I also explain why it won, what's changed since my first review, and how it compares with its rivals.

💡
I’m affiliated with every brand in this review, which means I may earn a commission if you make a purchase through my links or use the discount codes provided. PlatinumLED provided the BioMax Pro Ultra free of charge and, like every brand in my 2026 test, paid LightLab International for its panel’s lab testing. The scores come from the same lab tests and scoring system I used for all 11 panels, and all opinions are my own. This is not medical advice.

🏆 Quick Answer: Is the PlatinumLED BioMax Pro Ultra Worth It?

Score: 63.25 out of 100, 1st of 11 in my 2026 panel test.

The BioMax Pro Ultra pairs strong, well-balanced light with the best controls I tested: per-wavelength and zone control, smart modes and a removable touchscreen remote. It tied for first on ease of use and scored at or near the top in most lab rounds. It lost points for coverage (4th), price (8th), and a 3-year warranty with a restocking fee on returns.

  • Best for: most people who want one premium panel that does everything well, for skin and for deeper tissue, with detailed controls.
  • Not ideal for: EU and UK buyers chasing the widest coverage (the MitoHacker 5.0 covered more) or anyone who wants a long warranty and fee-free returns.
  • Price when tested: $1,610 delivered to Austin, Texas, after the 5% discount through my link, with shipping and tax included.
  • Stronger choices: none overall, as it won my test. In the EU and UK, the MitoLight MitoHacker 5.0 (2nd, 61.25 points) covers a wider area; for modular controls, the Rojo Switch M3 (3rd, 61 points) costs $48 less.

What I Like

  • Won my 2026 test with 63.25 points, finishing in the top four in eight of the nine rounds
  • The strongest light over a face-sized area at 12 inches: 92.5 mW/cm², varying by just 3.9%
  • Near-ideal balance: 54.7% red, with all five core wavelengths and the strongest 660 nm output in the test
  • Steady: 95.4% of its starting output after 20 minutes (tied 1st for stability)
  • A perfect 15 of 15 for ease of use: per-wavelength and zone control, smart modes, a removable touchscreen remote and an app
  • Zero-gap, edge-to-edge design for seamless multi-panel setups

What Could Be Better?

  • A 3-year warranty, shorter than Block Blue Light's and Rojo's 5 years
  • A 20% restocking fee on elective returns, and you pay the return shipping
  • Not the widest: 58.6% of the test area got 30+ mW/cm², 4th of 11
  • Its 1060 nm output is small (0.11 W/nm), and its blue LEDs were off during the lab test
  • Running several panels from one outlet may mean switching to the low-power setting

In the box: the panel, a remote, eye protection, a door hook, power and patch cables, hanging brackets and hardware. Stands are sold separately. PlatinumLED lists FDA Class II registration, ships from warehouses in the US and Europe, and the Pro range is HSA/FSA eligible in the US through Truemed.

Why the BioMax Pro Ultra Won, and What's Changed Since 2025

The MitoHacker 5.0 led my test for eight rounds on raw light performance. The BioMax won by being strong almost everywhere: it finished in the top four in eight of the nine rounds and tied for 1st in four of them (stability, wavelengths, red-to-near-infrared balance and ease of use). Going into the final price round it was 1 point behind; at $504 less, it took 3 more points there and won by 2.

FeatureWhat It Does
Zero-gap designLEDs run to the edge of the frame, so Pro panels joined together have no dark strip between them
Zone controlAdjust the top, middle and bottom sections separately, for example to keep strong light off your face
Per-wavelength controlDim each of the seven wavelengths individually
Smart modesOne-touch presets including Anti-Aging, Sleep Support, Skin Repair & Recovery, Workout and Deep Tissue
Removable touchscreen remoteUse it on the panel or in your hand
BIOMAX PRO appControl sessions, save protocols and track your progress
Near-infrared pulsing0 to 9,999 Hz, though PlatinumLED itself recommends running without pulsing

In my 2025 review I complained that the panel's display only showed the timer and that you couldn't save your own settings. The touchscreen remote I used in 2026 shows the preset programs and wavelength levels, and the BIOMAX PRO app lets you save protocols. My other 2025 complaints still stand: the 20% restocking fee, and the low-power setting you may need to run several panels from one outlet.

PlatinumLED says the Pro range delivers 50% more output than its standard BioMax models. I haven't tested a standard BioMax with my 2026 method, so I can't confirm that figure, but the Pro Ultra produced 276 W of light, 3rd of the 11 panels. For the older models, see my BioMax Pro vs. BioMax 900 comparison.

How I Tested the PlatinumLED BioMax Pro Ultra

The BioMax Pro Ultra went through exactly the same process as all 11 panels in my 2026 panel comparison, so its scores sit directly beside theirs.

  • Independent lab measurements. LightLab International, a photometric lab in Allentown, Pennsylvania, ran three tests in September and October 2026: total light output and spectrum in a 2-metre integrating sphere, output over 20 minutes, and an irradiance map at 12 inches measured every 2 inches (test report LLIA003088-001).
  • Why 12 inches. I now test at 12 inches rather than 6, because readings taken close to the LEDs overstate how evenly a panel treats your body. Here's why.
  • Nine scored rounds, 100 points. Coverage (35), average irradiance (5), uniformity (10), output stability (5), wavelengths (5), red-to-near-infrared balance (5), ease of use (15), extras such as warranty, returns, certifications, noise and expandability (10), and price (10).

Each brand, including PlatinumLED, paid LightLab for its own panel’s testing and provided its panel free of charge. The BioMax Pro Ultra's scores use exactly the same lab data and scoring as every other panel.

Lab Results: How the PlatinumLED BioMax Pro Ultra Performed

Coverage and Power at 12 Inches

Across the standard 24 × 30 in treatment area, the BioMax Pro Ultra averaged 48.6 mW/cm² (=2nd of 11 for average irradiance), and 58.6% of the area got at least 30 mW/cm² (4th for coverage).

The BioMax Pro Ultra's light at 12 inches, mapped from the lab's 403 measurements

The heat map shows a strong, even block of light about the width of the panel, peaking at 102.5 mW/cm². Across a full 24 × 60 in body area it averaged 29.6 mW/cm², 3rd of the 11 panels behind the MitoHacker 5.0 and Rojo Switch M3.

Here's how the light holds up as the treatment area grows:

Evenness

Overall uniformity (average ÷ peak across the 24 × 30 in area) was 47.4%, 3rd of 11. Over a face-sized area at the centre, the light ranged from 88.5 to 102.5 mW/cm², varying by 3.9%. Single-chip LEDs can look dotty up close, but that isn't a problem at 12 inches: the face area got the strongest light in the test, and it was very consistent.

Output Over a Session

After 20 minutes the BioMax Pro Ultra still delivered 95.4% of its starting output, =1st of 11 for stability (5 of 5 points). Red held at 94.6% and near-infrared at 96.5%.

Line chart of PlatinumLED BioMax Pro Ultra irradiance over 20 minutes at 12 inches: total 102.5 to 97.8 mW/cm², red 54.2 to 51.3, near-infrared 48.2 to 46.5

Wavelengths

The lab found peaks at 635, 663, 857 and 1073 nm. All five of my core wavelengths (630, 660, 810, 830 and 850 nm) cleared the 0.5 W/nm bar, which earns 4 points, a score shared with six other panels. No panel cleared the bar for the two bonus wavelengths, 590 and 1064 nm.

The lab's measured spectrum. The dashed line marks my 0.5 W/nm threshold.

Most of its energy sits at 660 nm (4.51 W/nm, the strongest 660 nm output in my test) and 850 nm (2.23 W/nm). Its 1060 nm LEDs reached 0.11 W/nm, short of the bonus threshold, and its six blue LEDs were off during the lab test, so blue made up just 0.1% of the light.

Red vs. Near-Infrared Balance

54.7% of the BioMax Pro Ultra's light is red (600–780 nm) and 45.3% near-infrared (780–1100 nm). That's close to the 50:50 balance my test rewards, and it earned the full 5 points. Red is the range most studied for skin, while near-infrared reaches deeper tissue, so this mix suits both. You can shift it further either way with the per-wavelength controls.

💡
My take on the lab results: the BioMax Pro Ultra wasn't the widest panel in the test, but it delivered the strongest light over a face-sized area, a near-ideal red and near-infrared balance, every core wavelength and some of the steadiest output I measured. That consistency, rather than any single result, is why it won.

Using the PlatinumLED BioMax Pro Ultra

It scored a perfect 15 of 15 for ease of use, tying with the Rojo Switch M3, including all three X-factor points for its zero-gap design, zone control and removable remote.

A Starting Protocol

These starting points are based on what the research suggests for skin and on the lab's measurements at 12 inches.

  • Face and skin: aim for about 5–9 J/cm². At 12 inches the BioMax Pro Ultra delivers about 93 mW/cm² over the face with every wavelength on, so that dose takes roughly 0.9 to 1.6 minutes.
  • Joints, muscles and recovery: 5–10 minutes per area at 12 inches. My dosing chart shows the ranges studies have used.
  • Eyes: wear eye protection. Near-infrared is invisible, and these panels are bright. More in my eye safety guide.

PlatinumLED BioMax Pro Ultra FAQ

Is the PlatinumLED BioMax Pro Ultra worth it?

Yes, for most people shopping for a premium panel. It won my 2026 lab test of 11 panels with 63.25 points, combining strong, well-balanced light with the best controls I tested, at $1,610 delivered. The main catches are a 3-year warranty and a 20% restocking fee on elective returns.

Why did the BioMax Pro Ultra win?

Consistency. It finished in the top four in eight of the nine rounds and tied for 1st for stability, wavelengths, red-to-near-infrared balance and ease of use. The MitoHacker 5.0 led for eight rounds on raw performance but cost $504 more, and the BioMax overtook it in the final price round.

BioMax Pro Ultra vs. MitoHacker 5.0: which is better?

If you're in the EU or UK and want the widest, most even light, the MitoHacker 5.0: it won every coverage, power and evenness round. For everyone else, the BioMax. It's sold worldwide, costs less, holds its output steadier and has more red light (54.7% vs. 37.1%).

Is the BioMax Pro Ultra good for skin?

Yes. 54.7% of its light is red, with the strongest 660 nm output in my test. At 12 inches it delivers about 93 mW/cm² over the face, so a 5–9 J/cm² dose takes roughly 1 to 1¾ minutes. Lower the intensity or step back if you prefer longer sessions.

Can you connect several BioMax Pro panels?

Yes. The zero-gap design lets Pro panels join without a dark strip between them, and PlatinumLED sells racks and stands for multi-panel setups. To run several from one outlet you may need the low-power setting, which PlatinumLED lists at 389 W vs. 793 W on high.

What's the warranty and return policy?

A 3-year warranty and a 60-day trial. PlatinumLED charges a 20% restocking fee on elective returns, and you pay the return shipping, so keep the original packaging.

Is there a PlatinumLED discount code?

Yes. My link takes 5% off BioMax panels. See my discount codes page for other brands.

Final Thoughts

The BioMax Pro Ultra is the best all-round panel I tested in 2026. It didn't win every round, but it was strong almost everywhere: the most powerful light over a face-sized area, a near-ideal red and near-infrared balance, every core wavelength, steady output and the best controls in the test.

Its weak spots are ownership terms rather than performance: a 3-year warranty and a 20% restocking fee on elective returns. If you're in the EU or UK and want maximum coverage, look at the MitoHacker 5.0. Otherwise, this is the panel I'd recommend first.

Score: 63.25 out of 100, 1st of 11 in my 2026 panel test.

  • Buy the BioMax Pro Ultra if you want the best all-rounder from my 2026 test: check the BioMax Pro Ultra price (5% off through my link).
